Your Housing...
Making Yellowstone your home for the summer is easy! We provide on-site housing for our seasonal employees who are 18 years of age or older. For most, home is a dormitory room with one or more roommates. Bathroom facilities may be attached to your room or located down the hall. There are no kitchen facilities in dormitories.

Your Meals... are provided in our employee dining rooms. These nutritious meals are served three times a day and include 2nd helpings, beverages and snacks. While an effort is made to provide a variety of menu options for meat-eaters and vegetarians, special diets can not be accommodated. Box lunches are available for employees that will be away from location during their days off.

A weekly payroll deduction... covers your employee housing, meals and laundry. This deduction is based on hours worked, and will not exceed $142.00 per pay period (every two weeks) for 64 or more hours worked -- before applicable sales tax. See the Details...Details page for more information.

Old Faithful Inn Climate and Altitude... are two unique features of living in Yellowstone. Many employees find themselves at a higher altitude than home, with elevations ranging from 6000 to almost 8000 feet above sea level. Altitude adjustment takes 7-14 days and includes symptoms of dehydration, muscle soreness and fatigue that can range from "barely noticed" to "hey, what's going on?" Drinking lots of liquid during that time (and every day!) makes adjustment easier.

The weather changes often in Yellowstone! One day may bring sub-freezing temperatures and the next, a sunny and warm day. Pack for changes which can occur in Yellowstone at a moment's notice! Don't worry....employees still see plenty of warm weather with sunshine!

Changing Yellowstone Weather! Yellowstone is a different lifestyle! You can hike or backpack over 1,100 miles of trails or photograph a blazing sunset, watch a herd of bison graze in the afternoon sun or sit quietly beside a mountain stream. From the physically exhausting to the quietly reflective, Yellowstone offers many worlds to explore! It is yours to decide.

Connecting to the world.... is not like home! Yellowstone is a wilderness area, and reception for radio is limited. Reception for television is non-existent! Employees may bring their own music to listen to and television/DVD/VCR combo units are usually available for rent on location, along with a variety of movie rentals.

Cell phone service ranges from "not great" to "non-existent". Many employees bring and use cell phones with varying amounts of success. At this time, there are two cell companies with tower service in the park. Verizon on the eastern and northern portions and Cellular One on the southern end of the park. Each location has payphones located in employee housing, so be sure to bring a phone card to call home! Internet access is available to employees through the Recreation Program described below.

During off-time.... Recreation and outdoor activities abound in Yellowstone! From watching wildlife to hiking summits, there is enough to keep you busy for a lifetime! Just follow the Play Here link to find out more!

And check out Travel Yellowstone for even more.

Our Co-op Recreation Program offers opportunities for play with activities such as basketball, softball, disc golf, weight rooms, movies, slide shows, dances and guided interpretive hikes. Visit the Co-Op Recreation Department website to find out what range of activities is available to you!

Remember...Yellowstone is a different place! We are miles and hours from the nearest shopping mall or movie theatre! Most of our nine locations are fairly remote and long distances from one another (for example, the distance between Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful is 52 miles). There is no public transportation system within Yellowstone, so employees must rely on their own vehicles or sharing rides with others to traverse the park or get out to the nearest town.

We are stewards of Yellowstone...and the earth!
